Kylie Minogue
Kylie Minogue, The Princess of Pop began her career back in her native Australia as a child actress in various soap operas. Her best known role though would be that of Charlene Mitchell / Robinson in the long running soap Neighbours. Her on screen romance and subsequent marriage to Scott Robinson (Jason Donovan) fuelled rumours of an off screen romance between the two. It was not long after their on screen wedding in the UK that Kylie and Jason released the 1988 hit single "Especially For You", which finally reached number 1 in the UK charts in the early part of 1989. This was to be Kylie's 5th single to be released.
During her time with Producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman, Kylie released a staggering 47 singles between the years 1988 - 1992. She left them and managed to establish herself as an independent artist. She managed to change her image from "girl next door" to sexy vamp, with the release of her 5th single "Confide In Me" from self name album Kylie Minogue.
It was to be another four years before Kylie marked her return to the top of pop music with her worldwide success "Spinning Around", from her 7th album "Light Years". The video accompanying the song feature Kylie strutting her stuff on the dance floor in a pair of gold coloured hot pants. The second single from the same album "On A NIght Like This" and ABBA's "Dancing Queen" was performed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics closing ceremony which preceded a sell out tour in Australia and the UK.
The release of "Fever" saw the hugely successful "Can't Get You Out of My Head" with the futuristic styled video showing Kylie dancing in that, now iconic white dress with plunging necklines and revealing slits. 
It reached number 1 in countries around the world and became her first top ten hit in the US.
Kylie Minogue's concerts are a spectacular feat to both see and hear. Her concerts manage to combine a variety of themes from science fiction with Kylie appearing as a space vamp, resembling the Queen from the 1926 film Metropolis by Fritz Lang, through to the dancing show girls of Las Vegas. She has had comparisons made with Madonna in the past with her videos and stage shows, but with Madonna firmly in place as Queen of Pop Kylie is very contented as staying as The Princess of Pop!
After all her chart and stage success, and starring in films such as The Delinquents (1989), Street Fighter (1994) Moulin Rouge (2001) and The Magic Roundabout (2005) as the voice of Florence, personal tragedy struck in 2005. Kylie Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer. This led to her having to put on hold the rest of her Showgirl - The Greatest Hits Tour.
After undergoing surgery and intense chemotherapy she was eventually given the all clear, resuming her career where she left off.
Kylie's numerous awards and achievements culminated in 2008 when she received her OBE for services to music from Prince Charles. In May the same year she also received France's highest culture honour Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Orders of Arts and Letters).
Her 11th album, Aphrodite is due for release in July 2010.
